Considered the art equivalent of music raves, “pop-up” art exhibits seek to bring artists and audiences together for fleeting runs, ranging from one night to several weeks. Since originating in London, England, “pop-up” art exhibitions have been popping up in American cities, such as New York, Washington DC and Chicago. 360 Degrees of Art is bringing the concept to Houston and will be hosting its second event in a year-long series of Pop-Up art shows at the Bubbles Car Wash on the trendy Washington Avenue (3522 Washington Avenue) on Saturday, Oct. 16, 2010 from 6 to 9 p.m.

In line with our mission of community involvement, 360 Degrees of Art will be hosting its second “Pop-Up” art show with a portion of the proceeds benefiting Big Brothers Big Sisters in honor of their 60th Anniversary. In addition to the gallery-quality art on display, 360 Degrees of Art has arranged for the Fusion Pita Truck and Frosted Betty Cupcake Truck to participate in the event.

“No matter how big or elegant, a traditional art gallery is nothing more than a series of white walls. But, when we allow ourselves to break free from the traditional concept of what a gallery ‘must’ be, and instead open ourselves up to what a gallery could be, we understand that any borrowed space is capable of being a place to experience art,” says Michele LaRocco, Founder and Managing Director of 360 Degrees of Art.

The goal for 360 Degrees of Art’s “pop-up” series is to generate an increased interest in the art community by transforming Houstonians perceptions of traditional art galleries. 360 Degrees of Art aims to create unique market places throughout the area where none previously existed, but more importantly, market places void of the overhead costs associated with art galleries while partnering with local charities like Big Brothers Big Sisters raise funds for worthy causes.
