36 famous Texans (Bush 41, 43, first ladies, governor, sports heroes, lawyers, singers) were asked to select a landscape taken in Washington County by Smithsonian award winning photographer, Timothy Wolcott, and make a statement about their love for Texas to celebrate the 175th anniversary of the independence of Texas from Mexico this year. Statements and landscape selection have been placed in a commemorative book, “For The Love of Texas,” being sold to raise funds for Washington on the Brazos State Park. Introduction is by Bush 41, foreword by Governor Perry. A limited edition of celebrity signed landscapes are also available for sale from the website, www.loveoftexas175.com, a great addition to art lovers’ collections.
Independence: Dr. Red Duke, “Of all things I love about Texas, it’s Texans-they are strong, proud individuals-courageous, visionary, energetic, loyal-their word is their bond-they will ride for the brand”
Meandering Stream at Sunset: Barbara Bush – “You can feel the gentle soul of Texas in this photo of a meandering stream at sunset. Our big skies and broad meadows bring all Texans a sense of peace and certainly an awe of nature. We Texans are blessed to live in this beautiful state.”
Memories of Texas: Nolan Ryan, “I have been fortunate to spend my entire life in Texas. Each year as winter begins to wind down, one of the things I look forward to most about spring is the appearance of Texas wildflowers that cover the countryside. Along the highways, rural country roads and adjacent fields, and even in some neighborhood yards, paint brushes can be seen first and are soon joined by bluebonnets and a mixture of other blooms of reds, golden yellows, pinks, and purples. We are very fortunate to have wildflowers that bloom from March through May which give us many varieties to appreciate. The spring of 2010 produced the most prolific wildflowers that I can remember in my lifetime!”
360 Degree’s of Art is building on our pop-up art concept and is partnering with Poggenpohl Houston’s Design
Studio to establish a rotating art space. Since its founding in 1892, Poggenpohl has become the world’s leading luxury kitchen brand and is ranked in the top 10 luxury brands along with Porsche and Mont Blanc, according to an independent study.
The purpose of 360’s pop-up art shows is to provide an opportunity for people to think outside the box, or in this case, outside the traditional four walls of an art gallery. This concept marries perfectly to Poggenpohl’s innovative spirit and dedication to quality and service. 360 Degree’s of Art will be rotating a new collection of artwork every 3 months, so be sure to follow us on Facebook for updates. Houston Greeters Presents “The Big Greet” Feb. 5
Celebration at Winter Street Studios Showcases Local Art and Celebrity Hat Auction
Houston’s first celebration of local art, music, culinary delights and celebrity hats will take over the eclectic Winter Street Studios on Saturday, Feb. 5, 6 p.m. to benefit Houston Greeters. Called The Big Greet, the event includes an art raffle, entertainment, music, food, beverages, plenty of artwork and a gallery of hats donated by notable Houstonians as part of a silent auction.
The Big Greet is a fundraiser for Houston Greeters, a nonprofit organization that provides a free service that connects volunteer Houstonians with visitors and residents interested in experiencing a part of Houston. Entry is $35 per ticket and includes food and beverages donated by St. Arnold’s Brewery, Budweiser and Pura Vida Tequila.
Winter Street Studios, located at 2101 Winter Street, is one of the most exciting work spaces for Houston’s creative community with 87 local artists in 75 art studios. Stroll through the converted furniture factory and visit the open studios to see the various works representing the city’s thriving art community while listening to local musicians.
Sandi Seltzer Bryant, a successful artist and co-chair of The Big Greet, created two original works of art – one available via raffle and one included in the silent auction. Seltzer Bryant’s original creations are acrylic on paper and depict an artistic view of the Houston skyline. “I just went for the gusto of Houston and the energetic spirit of the city,” said Seltzer Bryant. “The skyline, bayous, neighborhoods, freeways and green spaces are the elements I reflect in the paintings. My artwork is a celebration of the city’s spirit and beauty, and the good work of Houston Greeters.”
Raffle tickets for the artwork cost $100, with discounts for multiple tickets, and are available online at www.houstongreeters.org and at the event where the drawing will take place.
Event Co-Chair Michele LaRocco, founder of 360 Degrees of Art, says The Big Greet is a very special type of event. “This is an opportunity to experience Houston’s art community, enjoy the best of local entertainment, and bid on some fantastic hats from well-known Houstonians like Barbara Bush, graffiti artist Gonzo 247, Joanne Herring Davis, former Houston Astros Jose Cruz or Maria Todd of Mix 96.5,” said LaRocco.
The donated hats are part of Hats Off To Houston!, a celebrity online hat auction that started in December on eBay and will conclude with The Big Greet. “Hats Off To Houston! was generated by the idea that so many people ‘tip their hat’ figuratively to Houston Greeters in recognition of how volunteer Greeters familiarize people with the city’s vast experiences and offerings. Celebrated photographer Danny Clark will display a gallery of portrait photographs of the notable Houstonians who donated stylish and autographed hats.
Houston Mayor Annise Parker donated a straw rancher’s hat to the event and calls Houston Greeters a shining star in the city. “Houston Greeters is a true extension of our positive reputation as an international city with gracious and friendly people.” LaRocco said there has been a terrific response to Hats Off To Houston! “Now, we look forward to hosting a large crowd at The Big Greet.”

Considered the art equivalent of music raves, “pop-up” art exhibits seek to bring artists and audiences together for fleeting runs, ranging from one night to several weeks. Since originating in London, England, “pop-up” art exhibitions have been popping up in American cities, such as New York, Washington DC and Chicago. 360 Degrees of Art is bringing the concept to Houston and will be hosting its second event in a year-long series of Pop-Up art shows at the Bubbles Car Wash on the trendy Washington Avenue (3522 Washington Avenue) on Saturday, Oct. 16, 2010 from 6 to 9 p.m.
In line with our mission of community involvement, 360 Degrees of Art will be hosting its second “Pop-Up” art show with a portion of the proceeds benefiting Big Brothers Big Sisters in honor of their 60th Anniversary. In addition to the gallery-quality art on display, 360 Degrees of Art has … Read more
Now that the debut of our pop-up art show at Saks Fifth Avenue in Houston is behind us (check out the pics on our events page: http://www.my360art.com/category/events/), we’ve spent the weekend reflecting on the show. Our primary goals were to promote a very talented group of local emerging artists to a diverse group of people, while benefiting the Children’s Assessment Center of Houston.
We also wanted to expose 360 degrees of art to the broader Houston public by introducing people to our pop-up concept and to discuss how pop-up art can ultimately benefit the Houston art scene. The purpose of 360’s pop-up art shows is to provide an opportunity for people to think outside the box, or in this case, outside the traditional four walls of an art gallery.
Since the pop-up concept is new to Houston, this was the perfect opportunity to begin educating artists and art enthusiasts … Read more

CNet-founder Halsey Minor has actually scored a win in one of his many current suits. Christie’s must pay $8.57m in damages to Minor since they failed to return paintings he had consigned to them in a prompt manner and the price of the paintings fell during that time period.
Minor’s collection of contemporary art and design was recently sold off at Phillips de Pury as a way to pay back a defaulted loan.
